Dr. Colleen Watson attended The State University of New York at Albany, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology; she later earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the New York University of Dentistry. Her desire to be further skilled in a dental specialty, led to the completion of a Fellowship in Oral Implantology and Biomaterials at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center. Her compassion has led her to provide dental services as a volunteer to residents of rural Dominican Republic and Jamaica, West Indies. Dr. Watson currently works in private practice and is a part-time Associate Professor of Dentistry at her alma mater. She is very proud of the Ile a Vache project and all those that participated in the outreach and look forward future outreaches with this wonderful group that came to together.

Danni Gomes, RDH,BS graduated from the University of Bridgeport's Fones School of Dental Hygiene in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. She has been practicing as a Dental Hygienist for the past 18 years. She is currently employed full-time in a private practice, and teach part-time as a Clinical Instructor at New York University College of Dentistry's Dental Hygiene Department. Danni a member of the Admission's Committee for NYUCD Dept. of Dental Hygiene, and an active member of the American Dental Hygiene Association. She also teaches various subject matters in the Continuing Education Dept. for New York City College of Technology's Dental Assisting program. Danni is a Certified Trainer in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Her passion is in Education!!!


Jazmin Floyd is a senior dental student at UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School. After graduation, she will be participating in a one year general practice residency at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey. She is from and currently resides in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Community service and outreach has always had a place in her heart. Dentist for Haiti is truly special to her because many of her friends and colleagues are Haitian and Jazmin enjoys learning about the Haitian culture. She tries to live her life by a famous quote from Jackie Robinson: "A life is not important except in the impact it has on others." There is nothing more rewarding and fulfilling to her than helping others who are less fortunate.

The opportunity to complete a life long dream was granted to Edly Destine this spring. With a great circle of friends, they created an international outreach to Haiti. He is currently a third year Dental student and his passion for providing care to the underserved sparked the idea of establishing a long term dental outreach program on the island of Ile a Vache. He currently preside over the Student National Dental Association chapter at New York University College of Dentistry and will continue to promote dental access to individuals both here at home and abroad.

Jason Kwan is currently a 2013 candidate for Doctorate of Dental Surgery at NYU College of Dentistry. Originally from Los Angles, CA, he attended University of California at San Diego where he earned a B.S. degree in Management Science. He later earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas. Jason is the current NYUCD student council treasurer, and the 2011 winner of best clinical poster at Hinman Student Research Symposium.

Originally from Boston, Ariel Blanchard attended Barnard College and graduated in 2006 with a BA in American history. After working in development at a non-profit organization in New York City, Ariel returned to Barnard to complete a post-baccalaureate degree and apply to dental school. Ariel is currently a member of the class of 2013 at the New Jersey Dental School. In addition to dentistry and history, Ariel enjoys, good food, travel, yoga, and friends.

Eileen Danaher is a third year dental student at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Growing up in Syracuse, NY she always had a passion for art and science, leading her to the dental profession. Graduating from Providence College in 2007, she began to have a deep interest in outreach, which has led her to today. She is extremely excited to be participating in this wonderful endeavor, and cannot wait for all of the wonderful dental advancements the program is going to be able to make in Ile a Veche in the future!

Polina Chernyak is a student in New York University School of Dentistry graduating 2014. She attained a Bachelor's of Science in Marine Vertebrate Biology from Stony Brook University. She has had an interest in dentistry since high school and found herself taking nightly dental assisting classes just to get closer to the field. Since then, she has had a passion for, and hope, to bring as many people as possible beautiful and healthy smiles. Her ideal career would equally evolve around working in her hometown, New York City, as well as places and countries of need. The beauty of both the country and the people on the outreach to Ile a Vache, Haiti, left a lasting impression on Polina, and she hopes to help them one smile at a time.

Yelena Mikhaylova is a New York University School of Dentistry student class of 2014.  She graduated Queens College in 2010 with dual degrees in Chemistry and Anthropology.  Working in the dental field for 6 years, it has been a dream of hers to help less fortunate communities and travel on an outreach. The dental outreach has been a growing experience for Yelena and she will never forget the beautiful people and island Ile a Vache, Haiti.

Lorel Burns is a first year dental student at New York University College of Dentistry. She is from Nashville, Tennessee and previously attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, majoring in Health and Societies. Lorel has an interest in public health and clinical research and looks forward to future dental outreaches in Haiti to be both a learning experience and an opportunity to help address the unmet need for dental care by applying her knowledge in these areas.


Elie Czaykowsky was born and raised in Haiti. He has been part of the NYU Dental School family for over 30 years. In 2004, Elie visited Île à Vache and saw a dire need for better healthcare and quality of life.  After this trip Elie and his wife decided to build a home there to retire. In the time it took them to build their home they also built relationships with the people on the island. Elie's desire to provide them with a better quality of life has become his life’s mission. As a native of Haiti and a homeowner on the island of Île à Vache he is a great asset to our mission and to the people of Haiti.
